The PGA has been right at the heart of golf since 1901, when professionals of the day, led by the Great Triumvirate of JH Taylor, Harry Vardon and James Braid, formed an organisation to protect the professionals' interests and promote the game of golf.

More than a century later, the Association, which is based at The Belfry, is still playing a pivotal role in golf, representing more than 7,500 members including 1,600 overseas based pros working in more than 70 different countries.

As one of golf’s governing bodies it plays a significant role in helping to grow the game across the UK. It is key stakeholder in the England Golf Partnership, clubgolf in Scotland, Golf Development Wales and Junior Golf Ireland and is responsible for implementation of the Government’s UK Coaching Certificate for golf.

In addition it is also a founder of the World PGA Alliance – a framework instigated by the PGAs of Great Britain & Ireland, America and Australia with the aim of the universal promotion of educational and coaching standards among PGA professionals.

The PGA also retains close ties with the Ryder Cup as both trustee of the trophy and as a partner in Ryder Cup Ltd along with the European Tour and the PGA's of Europe.

The PGA has seven regions in Great Britain & Ireland with regional offices in the East, West, South, North, Midlands, Scotland and Ireland.

Key to the PGA’s on-going success and worldwide reputation has been its progressive training programme – a three year foundation degree in professional golf studies - which covers all areas of the golf industry from coaching and equipment through to sports science and the business of golf.

TGI Golf has been a keen supporter of the three year training programme, investing its faith in the future of the golf industry by annually sponsoring the PGA Regional Awards for high-performing assistant professionals.

Many PGA professionals belong to the successful TGI Golf buying group and the relationship between the two parties has been strengthened further with both teaming up with Foremost for the Trade Show at Harrogate which is set to become Europe's largest golf education event and trade show.

TGI’s support has been instrumental in delivering an extensive range of conferences and educational seminars for PGA members which are being run as part of the Association’s on-going continual professional development programme.
