Chairmans View on The PGA Show

Published: Monday, 14th February 2011

TGI Golf chairman Ian Muir was made the long trip to the PGA Merchandise Show at the Orange County Convention Centre, Orlando, and was buoyed by an exciting and vibrant show.

“The show was a little bit smaller once again, it has been shrinking the past few years and this year was no different, though despite being smaller it is still a very big show.

“I sensed a degree of optimism from the industry while I was there, with the big companies launching some exciting and interesting new products, such as the new TaylorMade R11 Driver, which is all white.

“Manufacturers have launched new products with great messaging, such as the R11, Callaway’s partnership with Lamborghini and Srixon’s new Z-Star Driver with its removable weights. These messages have captured the imagination of the pros, providing a sparkle and talking points not only among retailers, but customers too.

“Looking at the coming year I think the economic problems may be easing slightly, but they are still there, so don’t do anything daft.

“TGI Golf has built up amazing relationships with its partner suppliers, so I would advice members to make the most of those relationships and lean on the suppliers, look for the good deals, support them and they will support you.

“This year sees TGI Golf stage more member events than ever before, which is a sign of how far the group has come and where it is going. I would urge members to take advantage of these, whether it is one of the competitions or a monthly retail meeting. These events provide us members with the opportunity to come together and help each other through our experiences in a friendly and social atmosphere.

“While it has been a tough winter for everyone I believe there is plenty to feel optimistic about going into 2011. Fingers crossed the bad weather this winter will be followed by a great summer.”
